The Japanese have a strong affection for cherry blossoms, which have become a popular painting subject for many painters. Cherry blossom paintings portray the cherry blossom in a way that helps it stand out by abstracting the background to depict the flower’s three-dimensional or translucent look.

Since ancient times, Mount Fuji has been revered as both a subject of popular belief and a source of artistic inspiration. My fascination with Mount Fuji’s immaculate beauty began when I was a young artist, and it has continued to this day. As a result, I have been moved to depict the mountain in a variety of ways, including in works titled “Red Fuji,” “Ink Fuji,” “Gold Fuji,” and “Abstract Fuji.” By using a range of techniques and modes of expression, including the sparing use of ink and color, I have endeavored to depict the beauty and magic of Fuji’s surrounding clouds and air.

The deep color series is a method of expression that draws out the color of the stone using ink as the base color. For Kyoto landscape paintings, the trees, buildings, and mountains in the background are painted with ink, then colored with vermillion, vermilion, and red, and the buildings are repainted with gold. By layering colors on top of the ink, the actions of both express a deeper spirituality.

There are many different styles of flower arranging, but sometimes you can feel a rhythm in them that is similar to the scales of a piano. I tried to express that sense of rhythm in a painting.

It is important to use both Japanese and Chinese paints. Japanese red paint creates the transparency of the mountain ridges drawn with ink and the air surrounding them,
while Chinese paint adds a sense of weight. By combining the two, we can express the graceful and dynamic mountains that connect the foreground and background.

In contrast to the color arts of Europe and the United States, which I studied throughout my graduate art Programme, I would like to express and develop abstract art in the realm of Chinese ink. Chinese ink is supposedly separated into five hues, however Mr. Matazo Kayama claims that it has an infinite number of colors and is very strange. Although I’m currently in the exploring phase with my abstract works, I’ll keep working to find my own distinctive voice.

In China, the “Red Mountain” series is also particularly well-liked, and there are numerous enormous pieces measuring between 5 and 10 metres. Use of Chinese and Japanese paints is crucial. Combining Chinese paint to add the massiveness expresses the mountains with an elegant and dynamic connection to the foreground and distant view, while the combination of Japanese red paint to paint creates the clarity of the mountain ridge line drawn with Chinese ink and the air surrounding it.
